I really like Squidoo's description of smooth jazz, particularly that it's inception came from trying to record jazz of any kind in a studio as opposed to just enjoying it played live. As a jazz violinist who loves smooth jazz as well as many other forms of open expression, that task is before me. Ironically, today in the smooth jazz radio world, smooth jazz artists are expected to record tight, formally designed tunes. My band plays with such inventiveness and excitement live. I'm looking forward to recording this open, unencumbered sound on tape with the hope that smooth jazz radio will play it.
